An unrepentant Nasser Hussain finally named the three Indian “donkeys.”When former India cricketer Sanjay Manjrekar pressed Hussain to get the names that he referred to as donkeys few days ago for sloppy fielding, he hinted at Munaf Patel, Praveen Kumar and Parthiv Patil.Though he did not use the word donkey this time, his conversation on Skysports with Manjrekar suggested the names of these players.Hussain had made the donkey remark during Wednesday’s one-off Twenty20 match between India and England.Sitting in the commentary box during the fourth over of the England innings, he said: “I would say the difference between the two sides is the fielding. England are all-round a good fielding side. I do believe that India have few…3 or 4 very good fielders and one or two donkeys in the field still.”Hussain is the second ex-England captain to have raked up a controversy in the ongoing India tour of England.Former England skipper Michael Vaughan too had invited criticism for hinting at the use of Vaseline by Indian batsman V.V.S. Laxman to dodge the Hot Spot.

For the last 15 years, Nigeria has wallowed in soccer mediocrity — an ignoble plight for the most populous country on a continent that covets the sport. That changed Sunday when the Super Eagles won the Africa Cup of Nations, defeating Burkina Faso, 1-0.The win touched off an enormous celebration in Lagos, where thousands of delirious fans had gathered to watch the final moments of the tournament at Teslim Balogun Stadium.“We went there, we conquered,” a man who called himself Baba Daniel said to the Associated Press. “We fly; we are an eagle.”Once, Nigeria was a soccer stalwart. However, it turned quickly and badly for the Super Eagles. They have gone 13 years without a victory in the World Cup. It did not even qualify for the 2006 tournament. It was so bad that Nigerian President Goodluck Jonathan said he would not allow his country’s national teams to compete because of their substandard results. But FIFA, the sport’s governing body, said it would ban the team over political interference, and Jonathan acquiesced just before the deadline. Then there was a quartet of federation officials charged with corruption after allegations they embezzled money from the team’s tournament funds in South Africa. In short, it was a mess. All that made the win Sunday that much more significant.“President Jonathan urges all Nigerians to imbibe the positive lessons of the Super Eagles’ success because the fulfillment of the country’s immense potentials for greatness will be more speedily attained if more Nigerians resolve to emulate the team’s exemplary unity,” Jonathan said in a statement as Nigeria captured its third African Cup of Nations.“I don’t know how to just express myself,” Daniel said to the AP, “but I’m so flabbergasted. I’m so happy.”The win was a reprieve, if only briefly, from that country’s struggles through a bloody Islamic insurgency, debilitating poverty, sparse electricity and other spirit-stifling challenges.“I’m a proud Nigerian,” fan Cynthia Ejimnkeonye said to the AP. “I love this country with my last blood.”
Paul Pogba’s agent has lashed out at Paul Scholes over his criticism of the Manchester United midfielder.Mino Raiola lambasted the United’s legend after he questioned whether Pogba is the right choice as United captain following Sunday’s 3-2 defeat at Brighton.Sky Sports News understands Jose Mourinho – who has made Pogba captain in the absence of Antonio Valencia – retains the full backing of the board despite their defeat at Brighton. But Scholesy, who won 11 Premier League titles during a 20-year playing career at Old Trafford, was scathing about Pogba’s performance.“There’s a lack of leaders in the team, that’s why we thought Pogba might be the ideal candidate to be that leader but he wasn’t there [on Sunday]. He had another really poor game. He’s so inconsistent,” Scholes told Optus Sport.Solskjaer praises Harry Maguire after Man United’s 1-0 win Andrew Smyth – September 14, 2019 Ole Gunnar Solskjaer singled out Harry Maguire for praise after helping Manchester United keep a clean sheet in their 1-0 win over Leicester City.Raiola, who helped Pogba secure a return to Old Trafford from Juventus in 2016, responded by tweeting: “Some people need to talk for fear of being forgotten.“Paul Scholes wouldn’t recognize a leader if he was in front of Sir Winston Churchill.“Paul Scholes should become sports director and advise Woodward to sell Pogba. Would be sleepless nights to find Pogba a new club.”Up next for the Red Devils is a home tie against Spurs on Monday night.
