Man in custody after stabbing in Costco parking lot

first_img March 23, 2018 CARLSBAD (KUSI) — A man was taken into police custody Friday after stabbing an acquaintance in a Costco parking lot.At approximately 2:47 p.m., officers from the Carlsbad Police Department responded to the parking lot of the Costco, located at 951 Palomar Airport Road regarding the report of a stabbing.Upon arrival, Officers found the victim in serious condition with multiple stab wounds.The suspect, identified as Charles Higgins, a 62-year-old male, fled the scene prior to police arrival. The Carlsbad Police Department located Higgins in Temecula where he was taken into custody, with the assistance of Murrieta PD, the Border Patrol and the Riverside Sheriff’s Department.The victim and suspect are known to each other and this is not a random act. There are no outstanding suspects.The Carlsbad Police Department Investigations Division responded and is continuing the investigation. POLICE LOG for July 8 911 Call Over Skunk Smell Fight At

first_imgWILMINGTON, MA — Here are highlights of the Wilmington Police Log for Monday, July 8, 2019:A Sachem Circle caller reported a swarm of bees between her house and neighbor’s house. Animal Control Officer notified a bee service, which will be out later in the day to safely remove them. (9:50am)Animal Control Officer reported a large wasp nest in a Main Street shed. Officer advised resident how to remove it. (10:21am)A walk-in party found a Michael Kors bracelet at Cumberland Farm Gas Station. (12:56pm)An anonymous caller reported they were told a juvenile female was threatening to fight the caller’s friends at the skate park. Police checked skate park. No one in area. (1:55pm)Animal Control Office retrieved a cardinal with an eye injury from Salem Street. (2:08pm)Caller called 911 to report there’s a skunk in her yard and the smell is overwhelming. She requested an officer to scare it or euthanize it. Police advised her the skunk will move along and if it doesn’t, contact the Animal Control Officer in the morning. Rathish killed over wifes extramarital affair RAB

Photo: Moinul IslamThe extramarital affair of Rangpur public prosecutor (PP) Rathish Chandra Bhoumik’s wife was the reason behind his murder.Rapid Action Battalion (RAB) director general Benazir Ahmed said this at a press briefing at RAB-13 Headquarters in Rangpur on Wednesday.Rathish’s wife Snigdha Sarker confessed to RAB that she had an extramarital affair with her colleague Kamrul Islam and they planned to murder Rathish two months ago.Both Snigdha and Kamrul are teachers of Tajhaat High School of Rangpur.Rathish was killed on Thursday night. He was first made unconscious as 10 sedative pills were mixed with his food. They then strangled him to death, Benazir said quoting Snigdha’s confessional statement.The body was then left at the basement of an under-construction building in Mollahat area of Tajhaat with the help of two youths.On Snigdha’s confession, RAB members recovered the body around 2:30am Wednesday, in a drive that started at 8:30pm on Tuesday. The PP’s brother Sushanta Bhoumik identified the body of Rathish. Is Spotify Walking Back Its AntiHate Policy

first_imgSpotify will begin walking back its controversial decision to ban certain artists from playlists based on their “hateful conduct” and will “eventually restore songs” by rapper XXXTentacion, according to a report on Bloomberg. While one source close to the situation tells Variety that “nothing has been decided” on the matter, several other sources confirm the report, adding that it came about at the insistence of Troy Carter, the company’s global head of creator services and chief liaison with artists and the music industry.Reps for Spotify and XXXTentacion’s distributor, Universal Music, declined Variety‘s request for comment.Spotify’s policy was announced earlier this month via a vague mission statement against “hate content and hateful conduct” and a simultaneous interview with company executive Jonathan Prince stating that R. Kelly — who has been accused multiple times but not convicted of sexual misconduct against young women, including a child-pornography charge that was dismissed in 2008 — would be the first artist to be banned from the streaming giant’s playlists and other promotional efforts. The announcement met with immediate backlash from the media, artists, legal experts and even, according to sources, several senior Spotify executives. Within hours XXXTentacion, accused but not convicted of assaulting his pregnant girlfriend and other serious allegations, had been added to the list, and Texas rapper Tay-K, accused of murder, was apparently added several days later. The policy was apparently enacted in response to a call from the Women of Color branch of the Time’s Up movement, which called upon Spotify, Apple Music, Kelly’s label RCA Records, Ticketmaster and a North Carolina venue where the singer performed earlier this month to “join us and insist on safety and dignity for women of all kinds.”While Spotify’s highly subjective policy was met with applause in certain quarters, far more objected to its vagueness, the impracticality of policing it, Spotify’s seeming hubris in making such determinations, and especially the fact that it has thus far targeted only black males who have been accused but not convicted of serious crimes.The report says that the service “will eventually restore songs” by XXXTentacion, and that the “company’s top executives are talking to the music industry and civil-rights activists about how and when to adjust its rules in a manner suitable to both sides.” A source told Bloomberg that there are no plans to promote Kelly’s music.The move — which sources say was spearheaded by Jonathan Prince, who was the company’s head of PR during its public dispute with Taylor Swift over royalties in 2014 — caused such an uproar within the company that Carter was said to be on the verge of quitting. As technology has grown in sophistication, so too has the need for ever more accurate clocks. This has led to atomic clocks which use the electronic transition frequency in the ultraviolet, optical or microwave region of the electromagnetic spectrum to keep very accurate time. In this new effort, the researchers built a new type of atomic clock that is more accurate than any that has come before.To build their clock the researchers employed a laser and mirrors to build a lattice trap capable of capturing atoms—its purpose was to hold atoms steady so that there wouldn’t be any frequency interference, a problem with other atomic clocks. The trap was then filled with ytterbium atoms which were then shot with a second laser to measure their electronic frequencies. The result was a clock that if allowed, would be off by less than a second if run for 31 billion years.Building a clock that is believed to be the most accurate in the world creates a problem though, how to accurately measure its accuracy? The answer is by building another clock exactly like the first of course and then comparing the two against one another. That’s what the researchers did, running both clocks for a short period to see if they came up with exactly the same time duration, which the researchers report, they did.One of the first uses for the new clock will be in measuring gravitational redshift, which is a means of measuring very precisely, the height of geographic areas.
