WASHINGTON — The New York Knicks’ deconstruction project hit a new low, setting a team record with a 13th straight loss. The Knicks fell 101-91 to the Washington Wizards on Jan. 7, giving New York its longest in-season skid in the proud franchise’s 69-year history. With J.R. Smith and Iman Shumpert traded away, and with Carmelo Anthony (sore left knee) and Amare Stoudemire (sore right knee) injured, the Knicks made dubious history by giving major minutes to the likes of Cole Aldrich, Langston Galloway and Cleanthony Early.Their 23rd loss in 24 games featured all the now-familiar follies and a few new ones: passes that went nowhere, shots that became bricks, and Tim Hardaway Jr.’s bizarre decision to pass the ball away from the basket when he had a two-on-one fast break right in front of him.“We can’t get caught up in the history and record and number of games,” first-year coach Derek Fisher said, “and so we’re coming out and trying to win one game, and we’re supposed to celebrate because we broke a streak? No. That’s not who we’re going to be.”The idea of celebrating was pretty much moot after Washington made a 9-0 run late in the first quarter. The Wizards never really put the Knicks away, but there was also never a sense that they were in danger of losing, and Rasual Butler’s back-to-back baskets midway through the fourth quarter quieted any and all concerns after New York had cut the deficit to five.John Wall had 18 points and eight assists for the Wizards, who avoided slipping in an obvious trap game after a tough five-game road trip.“It’s a situation if you sleepwalk through it, you can look bad, and we slept-walk after we got up 20,” Washington coach Randy Wittman said. “We just can’t take things for granted.”Jose Calderon scored 17 points for the Knicks, whose roster requires a flow chart these days just to keep up. Langston Galloway, signed to a 10-day contract earlier in the day, played 18 minutes. Team President Phil Jackson is mostly concerned with clearing salary cap space for the future.“It’s not easy,” Calderon said. “All the things going on, in a season like that, all the changes happening to us — our teammates, they are going and new guys are arriving — and we’ve got so many injuries as well.”___RECORD IGNORANCE: Fisher said before the game he wasn’t aware his team was on the verge of an infamous achievement.“This franchise has been around long before I was even born, so we can’t carry that much weight into a game like tonight,” Fisher said. “There’s a lot of guys in this locker room that weren’t alive barely 20 years ago, so it’s just about our team and what it is that we’re trying to do.“We don’t like our record, where it falls in franchise history. I guess it would be a reality possibly depending on how the night goes tonight, but that doesn’t have to define us at all. That’s what it is, that’s what it would be and when things are going well for us, we’re setting records the other way, that’ll just be a part of this job and we’ll keep moving forward.”MORE TO LOSE: The unwelcome record chase isn’t done. The Knicks lost 12 straight at the end of the 1984-85 season, won the draft lottery and came away with Patrick Ewing, then lost the first eight games of the 1985-86 season to complete a franchise-record 20-game skid — a mark well within reach of this year’s team.(JOSEPH WHITE, AP Sports Writer)TweetPinShare0 Shares

Toh party…bhi??” To which, Amitabh Bachchan replied asking for a bonus for his performance!
PCB chief has expressed his disapproval of the Star Sports ad campaignTwitterThe latest to join the chorus of criticism of advertisements produced by Star Sports to promote their coverage of India vs Pakistan match in the ICC 2019 World Cup on June 16 is the chief of Pakistan Cricket Board (PCB) Ehsan Mani. In a statement that takes potshot at the official broadcasters, Mani criticised the sports network for its parochial vision in crafting advertisements and asked the International Cricket Council (ICC) to intervene in the matter.”I think this is for the ICC to take note. Star is the host broadcaster. They are not an Indian broadcaster, they are the broadcaster of the ICC. They should be fair to all teams. That (the teasers) is not part of cricket,” the PCB head remarked. This is not the first time that Star Sports has generated controversy with its promotional campaign. During the last World Cup, while the ‘mauka mauka’ ads were a big hit in India, some people had suggested that they were somewhat offensive to the Pakistanis. A screengrab from the World Cup adYouTube/Star SportsBefore the India-Bangladesh series after the World Cup, the channel again ran an ad campaign that became controversial. The ‘bachche ab bachche nahin rahe’ ads , talking about the Bangladesh team recieved an angry response from the fans of the latter team. Now, in 2019, another controversy has arisen and with political relations between the two countries not in the best of shape, the ads may further sour an already tumultuous relationship. As has been mentioned previously, Star Sports doesn’t have a great recored when it comes to making ads. They are usually over-the-top in their dramatization and hark more on the sentimental aspect rather than the inherent beauty of the sports. But Star isn’t the only company that is, according to some people, crossing the line. Already, Sania Mirza, Indian tennis player and wife of Pakistan cricketer Shoaib Malik has expressed her disapproval of the kind of advertisements being aired on both sides of the border to promote the TV coverage of the match. Let’s see if ICC does something about it.
By The Associated PressAuthorities in southern Louisiana are investigating a string of “suspicious” fires at three African- American churches in recent days.During a news conference April 4, Fire Marshal H. “Butch” Browning said it wasn’t clear whether the fires in St. Landry Parish are connected and he declined to get into specifics of what the investigation had yielded so far but described the blazes as “suspicious.”Firefighters and fire investigators respond to a fire at Mt. Pleasant Baptist Church April 4, 2019, in Opelousas, La. (Leslie Westbrook/The Advocate via AP)“If you’re going to turn to a house of God, turn to it for resurrection,” he said.State Fire Marshal’s spokeswoman Ashley Rodrigues says all three churches have African-American congregations. She said all possibilities on the cause and potential motives are being investigated. The ATF and the FBI also are involved in the investigation, Browning said. He said that more than 40 people from the marshal’s office are working on the investigation, which he described as “extremely active right now.”The first fire occurred March 26 at the St. Mary Baptist Church in Port Barre, and the second happened April 2 when the Greater Union Baptist Church in Opelousas caught fire. Then Thursday morning the Mount Pleasant Baptist Church in Opelousas caught fire. The churches were vacant at the time of the fires, and no one was injured.Pastors from 10 area churches gathered April 4 to discuss the fires and show support for the affected churches, The Advocate newspaper reported. The pastors said each of the churches was well over 100 years old.The Rev. Harry Richard of Greater Union Baptist Church told the newspaper that he doesn’t want people to panic.“I don’t know who’s doing it or why they’re doing it, but I don’t want to be the one to inject race into it,” he said.
